Breast cancer survivors are currently the largest group of cancer survivors in the United States, numbering over 2.5 million! At the Komen Tulsa Race for the Cure, we celebrate our survivors while taking time to remember those who have lost their fight. Read on to learn how you can participate in the Race as a Survivor!
Race participants who register for the Race and mark that they would like to be recognized as a Survivor receive their Race t-shirt, bib and packet mailing, plus a special pink Survivor t-shirt and cap courtesy of our national Survivor Program sponsor, Zeta Tau Alpha fraternity! Many Survivors like to collect ribbons given out at the Race from year to year to display each year of survivorship they hold. Survivors are also treated to face painting, special pink pompoms, and more at the Race!
Survivors wearing their pink Race t-shirt are treated to a breakfast of bagels, fruit, juice, and coffee on Race morning by Panera Bread inside the Survivor Pavillion. Survivors are permitted to bring one guest into the Survivor Pavillion, however, Panera Bread provides breakfast for only Survivors. The Survivor Breakfast begins at 6:30am in the Survivor Pavillion located behind the jumbotron at ONEOK Field.
Join fellow Survivors for a triumphant and emotional walk through Race participants as we all celebrate your victory over breast cancer! This year's Survivor Parade will leave the Survivor Pavilion at approximately 7:15am and head down to the warning track on the Driller's baseball field. Survivors will walk up the warning track (approximately 100 yards) and be seated behind third base for the Race ceremony. The route is completely handicap accessible, and Survivors needing the assistance of walkers or wheelchairs may bring a guest with them to walk in the parade. The Survivor Picture will be taken after all Survivors in the parade are seated and will be available for download after the Race at www.komentulsa.org.
The Pink Hat ContestSurvivors are encouraged to flex their creativity and participate in the Pink Hat Contest. Decorate any pink hat in "Survivor" fashion for a chance to win a fabulous gift basket from Panera Bread! Entry is free and hats can be turned in at Packet Pickup or at registration on Race morning before 7am. Hats will be displayed along the fenceline at ONEOK Field and participants will "vote" for their favorite hat with dollars. The hat that generates the most "votes" wins!
