Funding Priorities

Up to 75 percent of the net income raised by the Tulsa Affiliate supports local granting efforts to further breast health education, breast cancer screening and treatment programs for the uninsured and medically underserved in Tulsa County.

The remaining 25 percent of the net income is contributed to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Research Grant Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific conferences around the world.

Brief Summary of Priorities

1) Projects focusing on free or low cost breast cancer screening, diagnostics and treatment including a follow-up program for the uninsured and medically underserved.  More emphasis given but not limited to African American, Native American and Hispanic women.

2) Projects focusing on culturally appropriate targeted and quantifiable educational outreach that describes the risk factors, screening guidelines, treatment options and healthy lifestyle initiatives for Hispanic, African American, American Indian and Caucasian women.

3) Projects addressing the need for ancillary services including, but not limited to:  transportation, child care, and social services for low-income individuals seeking breast cancer screening, diagnostics and treatment with more emphasis given, but not limited to, rural areas.
