My cousin, Sharon Barrett, died from breast cancer in 2001. Shortly before being diagnosed, Sharon and her husband George found out they were pregnant with their first child, a baby girl they would name Grace. Upon being diagnosed, Sharon began chemotherapy treatment, but closely monitored the health of her baby with her healthcare providers. Sharon was faced with the challenge of balancing her life with the life of her unborn child.
Grace was born happy and healthy on October 31, 2000, and Sharon entered motherhood under an aggressive cocktail of chemotherapies. Despite her doctor's best attempts, Sharon died of breast cancer shortly after Grace's first birthday.
Sharon loved life and treasured the brief time she got to spend with Grace and George as a family. I can think of no better way to honor her memory and spirit than with Treasure Your Chest. The goal of this event is to celebrate life, raise breast cancer awareness, and generate the funds that will fuel the science to find the cures to end breast cancer forever. I ask for your help in raising $5,000 for our inaugural event. If every participant asks 10 people for $10, your $100 fundraising goal will put us one step closer to finding the cures.
Join Komen Tulsa as we kick off National Breast Cancer Awareness Month to celebrate life, raise awareness, and fight for a future when no child, Grace nor any other, should have to grow up without their mother.
