Owasso Girls Softball Association Hosts "Strikes Against Cancer"




 The Owasso Girls Softball Association has chosen Komen Tulsa as the recipient of funds raised at their inaugural Strikes Against Cancer event.  This multi-day softball tournament is a fundraising and breast cancer awareness initiative aimed at young women and their families.

“I believe an event like Strikes for Cancer will be a great week for the girls to learn more about breast cancer while instilling in them a desire to want to change things for the better”, said OGSA President Terence Koelsch. “One of our goals is to make sure our participants leave the field with the intellectual and physical competence necessary to become informed and concerned citizens.”

Open Your Arms to Fight Breast Cancer
The Oklahoma Blood Institute is asking blood donors to Open Their Arms to Fight Breast Cancer.  Any donor who gives blood, platelets or plasma April 1 to May 22, at OBI Tulsa Center or at an area mobile drive can elect to forgo the normal t-shirt incentive in favor of having OBI make a contribution to underwrite programs at Susan G. Komen for the Cure® - Tulsa.

When donors open their arms to donate, they are offering health, hope, healing and comfort to patients in our local communities. Through this OBI ‘Open Arms’ program, the impact of a local blood donor’s gift doubles to support all women who battle breast cancer and everyone who is fighting for a cure.

"Ignite the Promise": Global Advocate Summit

"With more than one million women and men being diagnosed with breast cancer every year and more than 400,000 people dying from it, we face a global breast cancer crisis." This was the message heard at the "Ignite the Promise": Global Advocate Summit held in Budapest , Hungary , on September 29-30, 2007.

Christy Southard, Executive Director of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Tulsa Affiliate served as a delegate to this first-of-its-kind meeting which brought together breast cancer activists from five continents and connected 25 U.S. breast cancer advocates with representatives from 30 countries.
